2009-10 Washburn Ichabod Season Preview. . .
Entering the 2009-10 season, the Washburn Ichabods find themselves with 80 percent of their scoring gone from one year ago,  the coaching staff and players are excited with the possibilities which lie in front of them as 10 new players fill the Ichabod roster as they look to return to the top of the MIAA standings after last season's run to the conference tournament semifinals.

Back court
Returning to the Ichabod back court are Nate Daniels and William McNeill. Daniels made six starts while playing in all 29 games scoring a career-high 18 points against Missouri Southern while recording five games where he had at least five rebounds from a guard's position. He also hit the game-winning free throw against Nebraska-Omaha with 0.3 seconds left giving the Ichabods an 84-83 win in the MIAA opener.
McNeil played in 27 games as a freshman averaging 4.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game with 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals per contest. He scored a career-high 14 points against Southwestern Oklahoma at the UCO Thanksgiving Tournament.
Another returner who practiced with the team last season while redshirting was Todd Eils. Eils earned all-league honors as a senior at Shawnee Mission West High School.
New to the backcourt are seven new players including a senior transfer, a Division I transfer, two junior college transfers and three freshmen.
The lone senior in the backcourt - as well as on the entire team - is Nate Wallace, who played at Independence Community College where he averaged 14 points and 5.8 assists per game as a sophomore while leading the eastern division of the Jayhawk conference in 3-pointers.
Coming from the Division I ranks is Dezahn Otis, who is transferring from UT-San Antonio where he scored 1.8 points per game as a freshman. Coming out of high school from Dominguez High School, Otis was a McDonald's All-American nominee after averaging 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game earning all-league honors two times.
Junior Maurice Colter earned honorable mention all-American honors at Butler Community College after averaging 10.2 points and 3.0 assists per game. He hit 45 of 121 3-point field goal attempts.
Junior Virgil Philistin comes to Washburn from Pensacola Junior College after averaging 11.5 points and 2.3 assists per game with 1.9 steals per game. He connected on 45 of 116 3-point attempts.
From the prep ranks, a trio of guards in Jordan Lambkins, Bryce Simons  and Mitch Allen will look for playing time. Simons, who finished third in the city of Topeka in scoring with an 18.7 points per game average was a second team all-state Class 5A pick and first team all-league selection.
Lambkins earned honorable mention all-state honors as a senior after scoring 13.2 points per game gaining second team all-league honors.
Allen averaged 14 points, seven assists as a senior while earning all-league honors as well as first team Class 3A all-state honors.

Front Court
The Ichabods return two who saw action last season in the frontcourt in junior Logan Stutz and sophomore Steve Feighny, but they will joined by a pair of transfers and a freshman for the season.
Stutz played in all 29 games making nine starts during the season and averaged 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds. He scored a career-high 15 points against Central Missouri. He had seven games with at least five rebounds. During MIAA play last season, his point-production increased nearly a point per game up to almost six per outting.
Feighny played in 19 games averaging 1.7 points per game and scored a career-high nine points against Baker.
De'Andre Washington joins the Ichabods and former junior college teammate Virgil Philistin from Pensacola Junior College after he averaged 11.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a sophomore he was 142 of 307 from the field while leading the team in rebounding. Prior to playing for the Pirates, Washington spent his freshman season at Valdosta State, where he was named the Gulf South Conference's Eastern Division Freshman of the Year after scoring 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
At 6-foot-8, 240-pounds, junior college transfer Anthony Nocito from New Mexico Military Institute will give the Ichabods a strong big man on the inside. Nocito averaged nearly a double-double as a sophomore after scoring 11.8 points per game while pulling down 8.0 rebounds per game.
Another 6-foot-8 post from the high school ranks joining the Ichabods is a familiar face to Washburn fans in the head coaches son Bobby Chipman, who earned first team all-state 6A honors as a senior after scoring 17.2 points per game with 9.4 rebounds per game at Washburn Rural. His scoring total was fourth in Topeka as a senior and helped him earn third team all-class honors. Chipman also has the ability to step outside and connect from behind the 3-point line.

Coaching Changes
Amongst the player changes on the court for the Ichabods, there will be a new face on the sidelines in long-time Seward County Community College head coach Dave Brown, who joined the team in May as a full-time assistant.
