Chipman announces Dave Brown as new Ichabod assistant basketball coach
TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn head men's basketball coach Bob Chipman has announced Dave Brown as the Ichabods' new assistant coach. Brown has spent the last 16 seasons as a top-notch recruiter of both Kansas and out-of-state talent in the Jayhawk Conference.

"We're excited to have Dave join the Washburn program," Chipman said. "He is a proven winner and a great recruiter."

Brown has been on the sidelines at Hutchinson Community College for the past two seasons where the Blue Dragons compiled a 43-12 record with two Region VI tournament quarterfinal appearances.

"I'm looking forward to joining the Washburn sidelines," Brown said. "The program has a rich history and I'm going to take pride in bringing in the right kind of student-athletes who will add to the legacy of the Ichabod program."

Before coming to HCC, Brown was the head coach at Seward County Community College for 11 seasons, guiding the Saints to Jayhawk Conference Western Division titles in 1998 and 2002 and four other league runner-up finishes. Brown led the 1998 Saints to a Region VI championship and a third-place finish in the NJCAA Tournament.

He was named Jayhawk West coach of the year three times (1998, 2002 and 2005).

Before taking over the Seward County program in 1996, Brown served as an assistant at Seward County for four seasons under Dale Reed.

Brown is Seward County’s all-time coaching leader in wins with 253 wins against 104 losses. The 253 wins rank No. 7 in Region VI coaching history.

During his tenure at Seward County, Brown coached four first-team NJCAA All-Americans, five Jayhawk West Most Valuable Players, three Jayhawk West Freshmen of the Year and nine of the top 10 leading scorers in Saints basketball history.

Brown earned an Associate of Arts degree from Fort Scott Community College in 1975 and graduate from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1978.

Brown has three children: Heather, Nicole and Jason, who attends Pittsburg State University and three grandchildren with his oldest daughter and her husband.
