TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn Ichabod golfer
Matt Ewald, who spent much of his senior season ranked as the No. 1 golfer in NCAA Division II earning NCAA PING All-American honors, was named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large team which was announced today. Ewald is the first Ichabod golfer since Chris McGown following the 2005 season to be named to the team announced by CoSIDA.
Ewald finished in a tie for 14th at the NCAA National Championships and earned all-MIAA honors for the fourth time in his career. He recorded a career stroke average at Washburn of 73.1 playing 131 rounds taking 9,571 shots at Washburn. He finished in the top five in 25 career tournaments and had 43 top 20 finishes. Head-to-head against other individuals, Ewald was 3,199-532 at Washburn for a career winning percentage of .857.
