TOPEKA, Kan. -- First-year head softball coach
Vanessa Becerra has announced her first signing class for the Washburn Lady Blues softball team. The initial signing class of four features three Kansans and a Colorado prep product who will join the Lady Blues program for the 2012-13 school year.

Vanessa Becerra said. "I believe that each individual will make huge contributions to the Lady Blues Softball team. They not only bring the athletic ability we are looking for but are outstanding individuals."
Abbey Breeding • 5-9 • 1B/OF • Topeka, Kan. • Washburn Rural High School
Her junior season she was a first team all-city, all-league, all-region and all-state after batting .546. As a sophomore, she was a second team all-city pick and an honorable mention all-league selection. As a freshman the Junior Blues finished second in the 6A state tournament. This past summer, her club team the Topeka Flames finished second in the nation at the 18U USSSA World Series going 31-5 during the summer season. She is the daughter of Stuart and Juanita Breeding and her anticipated major is medical imaging.
Lauren Byrn • 5-4 • 3B/1B/OF • Lawrence, Kan. • Lawrence High School
A member of the Chesty Lions' 2011 6A regional championship team as a junior. She was named second team all-Sunflower league and honorable mention all-area after leading the team with a .419 batting average her junior season. A three-time member of the honor roll. Her club team, the KC Jazz, placed third in 16 and under USSSA World Series this past summer. In 2010 the KC Jazz placed fourth at the World Series. She is the daughter of Mike and Amy Byrn and her anticipated major is nursing.
Tori Gloudeman • 5-7 • 1B/3B • Wichita, Kan. • Maize High School
As a junior she earned first team all-league and honorable mention all-state honors from Hovpen Sports at first base and as a sophomore she was a member of the 6A state championship team at Maize High School playing second base. A three-year member academic letterwinner. For her club team, she played first base and batted .390 with 47 RBI, five home runs, three triples, 12 doubles and had a .964 fielding percentage at first base. She is the daughter of Jeff and Gloye Gloudeman. Her anticipated major is biology.
Marina Quimby • 5-6 • P/IF • Centennial, Colo. • Grandview High School
As a senior she was named first team all-conference and first team all-city after staring 20 of 23 games for the Wolves going 15-4 with 130 strikeouts and a 1.43 ERA. She batted .391 with 15 RBI her senior season. As a junior she was a first team all-conference pick in the circle earning all-city honors as well. Her sophomore season she was a second team all-league pick while being selected first team all-city. A four-time academic all-state selection with her team earning four state tournament selections. She is the daughter of Jason and Surai Quimby and her anticipated major is exercise science.
