Final Season Stats
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. -- For the second straight day, the Washburn Ichabods improved six shots of their previous round score at the NCAA Men's Division II Championships climbing into 15th place up from 17th after day two.
The Ichabods shot a team score of 292 in their final round after recording a second round score of 298 after opening the Championships with a team score of 304. Washburn's final team total was a 30-over 894.
Riley Piles wrapped up his Washburn career leading the team with a 2-under 70 closing with three straight birdies to end his round. Piles finished in a tie for 51st overall after recording scores of 78, 75 and 70 for a three-day total of 7-over (223). Piles also claimed the 2011-12 Washburn golfers MVP after recording a team-low stroke average of 74.53.
Ben Moser and
Nathan Hoefflin each recorded scores of 1-over 73 in their final round. Moser, who also wrapped up his Ichabod career recorded one birdie and 15 pars. Moser joined Piles in a tie for 51st after rounds of 73, 76 and 73 for a 54-hole scorecard of 7-over (223). Hoefflin recorded two birdies in his final round to finish in a tie for 62nd overall with a 9-over 225 with rounds of 72, 80 and 73.
Chris Grause, one of three seniors on the team, completed his round with a 4-over 76 after recording a pair of birdies on the day. Grause finished in a tie for 71st overall with an 11-over 227 with scores of 80, 71 and 76.
Brian Walker wrapped up the NCAA Championships with a 7-over 79 giving him a three-day total of 20-over 236 with rounds of 81, 76 and 79 to finish in a tie for 96th overall.
Chico State won the 54-hole tournament with a score of 13-under (851) and will be the No. 1 seed in the match play portion of the NCAA Championships. They will face Centra Missouri, who finished eighth with a team score of 873.
Central Oklahoma's Josh Creel defeats Jim Knous of Colorado School of Mines
on first playoff hole for Individual Championship.
This NCAA National Tournament was Washburn's sixth trip and the first since the 2008 season.
