KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- Washburn hit .368 in the deciding set Friday at Truman to win 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-7) and improve to 10-0 and 2-0 in the MIAA.
Jessica Fey tied her career high with 18 kills and had a season-high nine blocks.
The Lady Blues will return home next week to host Pittsburg State at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena.
Washburn led 2-1 in sets entering the fourth set and looked to clinch the match as it was 22-21 WU late. The Bulldogs answered with three straight points to force Washburn's first fifth set of the year. An early 4-0 run in the fifth gave Washburn a 6-3 lead. Truman called timeout but the Lady Blues scored six of the next eight to go up 12-5. A kill from
Hillary Hughes later made it 14-6 and a TSU attack error clinched the match for Washburn.
Fey hit .270 in the match and Washburn hit just .153 as a team. Truman nearly matched that with a .150 attack and the Bulldogs -.038 percetage in the fifth set helped make the difference.
Jessica Kopp had 13 kills and
Kelsey Lewis had 16 digs and eight kills.
Courtney Churchman tied Lewis for the team lead in digs and
Abby Wittman had 48 assists and 11 digs for a double-double.
Marissa Cox had nine kills and Hughes added eight.
Truman used a 12-3 run in the second set to help tie the match. Allie Brak ended with a team-high 17 kills and she added 10 digs for a double-double for Truman.
