Home and away series with Hornets up next as Ichabods continue MIAA action

Leading Off...
Washburn will take on its most-played rivalry with four games this weekend against ESU. The Ichabods and Hornets played once this year already and have played 208 times.
The Ichabods will then attempt once again to play Rockhurst, this time with a 5 p.m. game Tuesday. The two teams have four games scheduled this year but have not yet played each other.
Washburn is 13-13 overall and tied for fifth in the MIAA at 13-11. The Ichabods took 3 of 4 against NWMSU last weekend and then had a non-conference game at Rockhurst postponed on Wednesday.
Emporia State is 19-11 and third in the league at 14-10. The Hornets split a series at FHSU last weekend and then beat UCM Tuesday in a non-conference home game.
ESU leads the all-time series 143-65 after a 9-7 win earlier this year. WU is 7-5 against the Hornets in the last 4 years.
Rockhurst is 8-16 after spliting a DH at William Jewell on Tuesday. The Hawks will play four against Maryville this weekend before hosting Washburn.
Rockhurst leads the series vs Washburn 34-31 and they have met at least once every year since 1999.
Kyle Carnahan has reached base safely in each of the first 20 games this year and so far in 25 of the 26.
He batted 8-10 against NWMSU last week to take over the team lead with a .370 season average. He also leads with 17 RBI, 13 walks, 7 HBP and 4 sac flies.
Senior Brett Ash has a 1.14 ERA through four starts and is 2-1. He's allowed just three ER in 23.2 innings.
Ash is 1st in WU history with 22 complete games, 3rd with 19 wins & 3rd with 172 K. 16 more K will move him to 2nd.
Washburn is 6-0 in the 2nd game of four-game series this year but just 1-5 in game four.


Home and away series with Hornets up next as Ichabods continue MIAA action
The Ichabods will host Emporia State Friday at 5 p.m. at Falley Field as the two teams open a four-game MIAA series. The Hornets will host the next two games in the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. and then Washburn will host the finale Sunday at 1 p.m.

Washburn will then host Rockhurst Tuesday, April 8 as the two teams attempt to play the first of four games against each other this year. The first two scheduled games have been postponed.

The Ichabods took three of four games last weekend against Northwest Missouri to improve to 13-13 overall and 13-11 in the MIAA. They enter the weekend in a three-way tie for fifth in the conference. Emporia State is 19-11 and third in the league at 14-10 and Rockhurst is 8-16 with four games scheduled before its game at Washburn.

Ash climbs to third in career wins and strikeouts
Senior Brett Ash pitched another complete game win Saturday against Northwest Missouri to move all alone in Washburn career history with 22 complete games. He added five strikeouts to move to third with 172 and he moved to a four-way tie for third with 19 wins. He needs 16 more strikeouts and five wins to move the second in each category.

Ash is second in Washburn history in career innings pitched and career starts. Two more starts will tie him for first.

Carnahan reaches safely in first 20 games and 25 of all 26
Kyle Carnahan has had a turn on the base paths in all but one of Washburn 26 games this year. In fact, he reached safely in the first 20 games with at least a hit in 14 games and a walk or hit by pitch in the other six.

He batted 8 for 10 against Northwest Missouri last week to take over the team lead with a .370 batting average. He's hit safely in 19 games this year.

Ichabods tough in the middle
Washburn is 6-0 in the second game of four-game MIAA series this year. The Ichabods are 4-2 in the third games to make them 10-2 in the middle two games of the series. They are 2-4 in openers and 1-5 in finales. Washburn has won three series, lost two and split one this year.

About Emporia State
The Hornets split a four-game series at Fort Hays State last weekend and then beat Central Missouri in a non-conference game Tuesday. Price Jacobs leads the team with a .345 batting average and Dean Long leads with eight home runs and 27 RBI. Brenton Higgins has a 1.42 ERA and 3-0 record in 15 bullpen appearances and Shawn Talkington leads the starters with four wins.

About Rockhurst
The Hawks are 8-16 and they have four games scheduled before they play Washburn. Josh Dennett is hitting .412 to lead the team and Josh Tols leads the pitching staff with three wins and a 1.93 ERA.

Keeping up with the changes
The Ichabods have had numerous games postponed or moved and didn't play their first home game until March 14, the latest date in recorded school history.

Last Wednesday's game at Rockhurst was rained out and will be rescheduled for the second time. The March 4 game with Newman has been moved to April 21 at Falley Field. Makeup dates for two other non-conference games have not been announced yet.

Up Next
The Ichabods will play their first games at Nebraska-Kearney since before joining the NCAA when they travel there April 11-13 for a four-game MIAA series. Washburn will then host Emporia State April 15 in a non-conference game at Falley Field.
