McHenry announces six signees to join Women's Basketball in 2017-18

TOPEKA, KAN. --- Washburn women's basketball coach Ron McHenry announced the addition of six new student-athletes who have signed  for the Ichabods during the 2017-18 season. The class features high school graduates and a junior college transfer with the future Ichabods hailing from Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arizona.
 
Regarding the incoming group McHenry said, "I'm happy with the players we have coming in. Many will notice that its filled with freshman and sophomore. We decided to go in a younger direction with the idea to have solid players for longer period of time. This group as a whole as a good bit talent. Some will take time to develop while we see others being able to go right away to help us compete in this league. This class allowed us to address a number of needs and it's because of this class that we deeper across all areas."
 
Adyson Narber • Guard • 5-4 • Phillips, Neb. • Aurora HS
Four-year letterwinner in basketball and track from Aurora HS … also played three seasons of volleyball … helped Huskies to back-to-back winning seasons during junior and senior campaign … conference and district finalist as a senior … two-time All-Central Conference first team selection … set several school records including single-season assist, career assists, single-season points and career points amongst others … all-state honorable mention by Lincoln Journal Star … Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star game selection … active in National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) … born in Hastings, Neb. … daughter to Karen and Conn … has two siblings, McClain (sister) and Cal (brother) … playing to study exercise science … her dad (Conn), played football for Kearney State.
 
McHenry on Narber: Quick, versatile player that can handle both the point or two-guard position and has the ability to but the ball on the floor and get around defender.

Four-year letterwinner in basketball from Clever HS … four-time all-conference selection … earned all-district honors during junior and senior seasons with the Blue Jays … born in Springfield, Missouri … daughter to Melanie and Brad … has a brother, Chandler …  planning to study pre-med.
 
McHenry on Maples: Very talented player who has a really good sense and rhythm to the game. She transitions well and can get up and down the floor. Really like her ability to score and think she passes the ball really well.

Four-year basketball letterwinner at Bartlesville HS … helped team qualify for state tournament during sophomore and junior campaigns ... as a senior helped the Bruins qualify for area tournament … earned all-state honors in her final season … recognized as academic all-confernce and member of honor roll … born in Stillwater, Okla. … daughter to Kimberly and Erich … planning to major in criminal justice … her dad (Erich) played football for Southwestern Oklahoma State.
 
McHenry on Richter: Very talented big with good size that can play either the five or the four who has the ability to shot the three. We think she can definitely be a presence inside while also being a threat from the outside.

Four-year letterwinner at Bishop Miege HS … averaged 17.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game in her final season … member of 1,000-point club … helped Stags to a 94-6 record and four straight Class 4A-I state titles … three-time Eastern Kansas League selection with first team nod as junior and senior … two-time Eastern Kansas League MVP … second team all-state as a junior … first team all-state as a senior … named Player of the Year by Kansas City Star … named to first team on ALL-USA Kansas Girls Basketball by USA Today … listed as a finalist for the DiRenna Award as top high school basketball player the Kansas City area … active member of Campus Ministry and Students Against Destructive Decisions … daughter to Holly and Hal … has two siblings, Hope (sister) and Hudson(brother) … planning to study political science … her dad (Hal) played football for Kansas State.
 
McHenry on Bentley: Has the ability to do a lot of things really well. Very consistent and complete player who can handle the ball, stretch the floor, play defense, rebound – she can do it all, and has the accolades to back it up.

Four-year letterwinner in basketball, volleyball and track at Elkhart HS … started for varsity team as a freshman … as a sophomore helped Wildcats to advance to finals in Kansas Sub-state tournament … team MVP as a junior and senior … two-time all-state selection by Topeka Capital-Journal … three-time all-league first team pick … qualified for regional track meet as a freshman … set school records in 4x100 and 300m hurdles … two-time all-league first team pick in volleyball … ranked third in graduating class … daughter to Amy Wagner and Jason Simmons … has two siblings, Tori (sister) and Tyrel (brother) … planning to major in pre-physical therapy.
 
McHenry on Narber: Hard-nosed player with good a solid work ethic who'll work her way through the system.
 
Taylor Blue • Forward • 5-10 • Glendale, Arizona • Pima CC
Letterwinner at Peoria HS … spent 2014-15 season with Arizona Christian University … played in 26 games for the Firestorm … averaged 11.4 points while pulling down team-best 159 rebounds (6.1/game) … reached double-figure points 20 times … transferred to Pima CC for 2015-16 season, helped team to 28-8 record … started 33 of 36 games for the Aztecs … assisted in NJCAA Region I tournament title … advanced to semifinal round of 2016 NJCAA Division II National Championship … planning to major in criminal justice.
 
McHenry on Blue: May be a bit undersized but can really control the boards and has the ability put the ball on the floor. Knows how to win and has the talent to play in league and she'll give us some options at four spot.
