FINDLAY, Ohio -- The No. 14 ranked Washburn Ichabod golf team will take a 21-shot advantage into the final round of the NCAA Central Regional Tournament. Washburn shot a team score of 1-under 287 placing their combined score for two rounds at 9-over. Missouri Western is the closest competitor at 30-over for the event recording a team score of 300 in the second round. The Ichabods are looking for their fifth NCAA National Tournament appearance in the last six seasons. Washburn's two-day score of 585 is the lowest at the regional as Grand Valley State leads the Great Lakes Region with with a 587. Both tournaments are being played on the same course and the winners of each regional, as well as the top team, regardless of region, will qualify for the 2008 National Tournament in Houston, Texas.
Matt Ewald leads the Ichabods and sits in a tie for third after the first two rounds after recording an even-par 72 today. He is 2-over for the tournament (74-72+146). in the second round, Ewald started off 3-under before back-to-back pars at the eighth and ninth holes lowered him to 1-under at the turn. On the backside, he sandwiched a birdie between two pars between the 12th and 14th holes finishing even on the round.
Matt Salome is in a tie for fifth after carding a 1-under 71. For the tournament he is 3-over (76-71=147) after shaving five strokes off his first round score. Salome was 2-over at the turn, but recorded three birdies on No. 10, No. 14 and No. 17 to wrap up his round.
Matt Lazzo and John Robbins are both tied for seventh for the tournament. Robbins tied Salome for the Ichabods' low round of the day with a 1-under 71. Robbins went out in 33 shots recording four birdies with a par before a bogey and a double bogey to begin his back nine pushed him back to even. After a birdie on the 13th hole and another on the 17th, Robbins was 2-under, but gave a shot back with a bogey on the par 4 18th hole. Robbins cut six strokes off his first round total after today's 1-under (77-71=148).
Lazzo was 1-over in the second round and stands 4-over for the tournament. He was 1-over today after shooting a 36 on the front nine. He opened the 10th hole with a birdie and then made par on the 11th hole. He finished his round going bogey-birdie-bogey en route to a 73 following his 75 in the first round for a 148 total.
Ryan Deutsch is in a tie for 10th (73-77=150) after recording a 5-over 77 in the second round. After playing his first nine holes 4-over 40, Deutsch bogied the 11th hole before finishing with seven straight pars.
Missouri Western's Aaron Lisenbee leads the tournament after firing a 7-under 65. He leads Central Missouri's Justin Yoder by three shots and Washburn's Matt Ewald by five shots entering the final round.
